Dear Musician,
The Practice Assignment for Today, Tuesday, March 17th is......drum roll, please.....!
Warm -up:
From the method book, play number 1: First Notes and Rests and Rests; Number 2: Going Up, Numbers 3, 4 and 5 with and without the musical accompaniment (on my webpage under resources).
Practice “My Girl” without the accompaniment, very slowly, to ensure rhythmic and note accuracy. Repeat.three times.
Play along with the recording; repeat notes you may have had trouble with, then play along with the recording until you can play the song in a steady tempo with rhythmic and note accuracy.
You may e-mail me audio of your performance, no video, and I will respond with helpful tips.
Have FUN!
Dear Musician,
A most effective means of practicing is to sight read, play scales, excerpts from the method book, “Accent on Achievement”, and the band repertoire: “Hot Cross Buns”, “We Will Rock You”, “Watch Me Whip”, “My Girl”, “C Jam Blues”, “Baby Shark”, and “Jump-n-Jive.”
You may reference the accompaniment to the method book (under resources), songs on my webpage and on youtube.com by simply typing in the title. If you prefer to e-mail me audio (no video) of you playing the songs, I will write you back with some helpful tips.
If you left your instrument at school, please call the main office and make arrangements to pick it up.
Have FUN!
Mr. Blanco
Thank you for your interest in band! I am elated that you elected to play in band and I am so excited to teach and play the 2019 repertoire. If there are any songs you would like to request the band to play, please let me know!
On Friday, September 13th, I will offer a presentation and orientation of the band program including a musical demonstration of the instruments that are available to rent. Students have the opportunity to choose from the flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone horn, mallet percussion (glockenspiel) and drum.
Please remit your registration form and $25.00 fee as soon as possible, and of course notify me if there is a problem.
Fourth grade lessons occur on Tuesdays on a rotating basis. Please bring your instrument on your assigned day, and you may leave your sheet music/band folder at home; I will supply you with duplicates for in-school use.
Students are expected to practice twenty minutes at least twice-a-week. Please bring your instrument home; do not leave it in your teacher's classroom. Recordings are posted on my web page and are a terrific source of inspiration. education, and a great practice aid!
Early morning band rehearsals will occur on Tuesdays at 8:15 a.m., beginning in mid-January. Students are required to attend the band rehearsals in order to prepare and qualify for the spring concert. Unfortunately, the band students will not perform in the winter concert. Excessive unexcused absences (present in school; absent from band) of five or more may exclude them from performing in the concert. A permission slip will be sent home in early January.
Thanks in advance for a GREAT year! Please contact me with any questions. Thank you for your support! You are instrumental to our success!
Thanks so much!
Mr. Blanco
These downloadable recordings consist of musical accompaniment to the sheet music the students have received in class. They are a GREAT practice aid! ENJOY!
